Brake Disc Get Pushed to Its Limits

Wanna See a Brake Disc Exposed to High Heat and Pressure, and Then Explode Into a Million Tiny Pieces? Of Course You Do

If we’re being honest, we don’t really give our brakes the attention they deserve. They, for the most part, are the only things stopping us from hitting… well everything. Brake discs are dependable, durable, and can take massive amounts of force, all without failing.

In today’s age of automotive technology, we even have carbon ceramic discs, a lighter, more-durable alternative to tradition steel brakes. So if most track days can’t completely murder a set of brake discs, then what will?

The answer to that is force, and a lot of it. In the video below, the team at Beyond the Press takes a completely functional Ford Fiesta and does what any group of maniacs would: they jam one foot on the brake and one even harder on the gas. Then they hope for the best.

The end result is a bit of a spectacle, but you will be surprised by just how long the brake disc holds on before giving into the immense pressure and rising temperatures. Like I said, we really don’t value brake discs for the heroic pieces of equipment they really are.

The video team also caught their GoPro on fire, while they were at at. Which is awesome. Enjoy!
