There’s nothing like reflecting back on your past achievements when celebrating a birthday. We all do it. So it seems pretty fitting that the same would apply when assessing the iconic status of a car like the Mustang, which is celebrating its 52nd birthday this week.

In all honesty, the milestone probably would have escaped us, had it not been for The Drive bringing it to our attention while highlighting how the benchmark speaks to the legacy of the Ford pony car.

But we’re also celebrating the new Shelby GT350’s first full year of production. And if you think about it, the much-buzzed about Mustang really has been a huge success. So much so, that the whole nameplate holds as much clout as it ever did, which speaks volumes about the Mustang’s iconic status.

A clearer example might be the fact that roughly 48-years after Shelby launched the Mustang GT 500-KR, Hagerty estimates that a mint condition model could pull in about $230,000. Yeah, that’s clout.
