ORIGINAL: FyouGitive

ORIGINAL: Stkjock

that or they like the story of Ferdinand the bull when they were a kid......
Then it should be "Spanish Cork".

It's actually an anagram of "Shank Soap".

Actually i don't think anyone alive knows what it means. Scholars agree that the real meaning of "Spanish Oak" was lost in translation centuries ago......
as a matter of fact, i believe, mr. burgundy, thatit means, "a whale's vagina."

Why are our Mustangs called S197's? It's probably just a factory desgination for a particular platform.

was just looking for some pcm stuff and stumbled back to this dead thread...anyone out there that might still wonder about the spanish oak processor, loads of data sheets can be looked up at motorola's www.freescale.com

motorola now almost exclusively calls it a MPC565 chip, only a few references back to its old power pc or spanish oak name... 32bit, 40 mhz, 1 meg flash...

the new 'copperhead' power pc chip MPC5554 chip has 2 megs flash, think it runs up in the gigahertz range...

would sure love to know how to play around with the actual programming in these things...would be fun to get a tuner and snoop at the tune download after making changes just to try to figure out whats where...we use some small Panasonic PLCs at work that are close to the spanish oak capabilities (I think), always thought would be cool to put a set of 'modern' controls on a old bigblock...maybe someday.

What sucks about car ECUs is they are way overpriced but nowhere near the processing capabilities of a desktop CPU. For example, an Intel I7 quad core CPU Canberra bought for as little as $300 but a PCM will easily set you back nearly $1000 or even more to replace. Ant that is not even multi core nor can it run more than one program (tune in this case).

I would like to see PCMs that can switch between multiple tunes on the fly without even having to load up tunes one at a time with the car off using a tuner. Not only that, a multi tasking PCM can mix and match different tables of different tunes to create much more flexible tuning parameters to further improve performance. And when you are not stepping on it, mix and match tables for even better fuel economy.
