seems that a lot of people are having this problem. i personally have had my car over 100 plenty of times and never actually noticed it but maybe b/c i am not focused on the hood so much as the road ahead. perhaps we are all gonna have to invest in some functional hood pins eventually. i think they would look pretty cool anyways.

At the dealership I opened the hood and found a loose rubber seal down in the engine. I said out loud "What the hell is this doing here?"

Apparently it fell off the side where the hood "rests" against the car. Right on the side middle of where the hood and car meet.

I'm wondering if you have this in place...you probably do and I've wasted my time typing all this out.

But not that much wasted time...I'm glad I could rant a little.

Whoops...wrong forum. Not a GT owner yet but working on it.

How did your hood pin install go? I'm considering them for mine, but I'm worried about drilling the hood and possibly chipping the paint.

Thanks.

if you dont want the normal quick release bonnet pins like 05satinsilver has maybe go for some of these instead? http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/ <<<<click the link go to 'catches' (under products) then scroll down about half way until you see 'aerocatch bonnet lock' these are flush mounting and come with or with or without being lockable!

Someone said it's not the front section of the hood that's the problem so the pins don't work. It's that air cannot escape under the hood where it meets the windshield wiper area and that's the area where the hood shimmies. At least, I guess, the pins would keep any possibilty of the hood from flying up or worse yet--OFF!

I think it would be interesting if someone securily propped a video camera in the passenger seat and recorded the hood's behavior at high speeds and posted it. Or even better, send it to Ford with the caption: "What's this all about?". If it’s a smooth road, it should be recordable. Just don't let the police get their hands on you or the tape.

It's a Mustang and people will drive them fast!! Some are reporting it happening at 80 mph which really isn't THAT fast. Heck, I've driven that fast but never noticed any hood movement. It could be I was too busy putting makeup on, putting my teeth in and brewing a cup of coffee while driving at 80 mph.

I've had my "borrowed" V6 up to 105mph and didn't notice anything with the hood.

Maybe it was because I was changing a CD and talking on the phone at the time.

No problem at all. Just take your time. I used a step drill bit. Started from the underside, once the bit just poked through the other side, I finished drilling from the top. I also have hood struts installed too. I heard someone with just the struts say the hood stopped flexing, with just these installed? The struts are from Redlinetuning.com

Default hood lifting

my 2008 did not have that problem untill a replacement hood was installed after collision damage. At 75mph on I-95 I hit a 20mph + head wind and driver side middle lifted 2". I pulled off to check for obvious unlatch but could find no problems. At next gas stop after continuing to watch the hood lift I found an issue. The inner and outer panels of the hood are not bonded, welded, or crimped tight enough (steel hoods are spot welded don't how these aluminum hoods are done anybody know) so they slide on each other and do not offer support to each other as they should. Its like two seperate loose panels not one structual unit. Now to get Progressive to replace it is the task>
