Gas Gauge Needle

Gas Gauge Needle
Lately my 05 V6 gas gauge needle won't go back up right after a fill. Sometimes it takes a few starts and stops but will eventually go where it's supposed to. The computer will think there's no gas in the tank and give you the warning message that you are low on fuel with 30 or so miles left. I also have a check engine light that's been on for a couple weeks now. I don't think the two are related but I guess you never know. Anybody had a problem with their gas gauges?

There's a technical service bulletin related to this. You could also try running some Techron, Seafoam, or Lucas fuel system cleaner... maybe your fuel pumper sender has gunk on it. That's been known to happen, too.
And for the love of God, go to Autozone and get that CEL code read. You can't ignore that stuff.

A few pages down it fully explains the correct fuel guauge operation.
A search brings up posts from the past on the subject.

Colud be your refueling procedure.
The gas guage has 4 modes of operation each
with its own set of rules as to what to display on the guage.
Key On refueling
Key Off refueling
AntiSlosh mode
Recovery mode.

because of people interpolating a properly working gas guage on
a S197 as the fuel sender being bad....

And I wonder how many people have embarked on a major project when the cure could be as simple as adding a bottle of Chevron/Texaco Techron to the fuel tank.

Understanding the four modes of the fuel guage might be a major
project for you but would be a simple learning process for others.

Some people actually aren't retards, and know a) how to fuel a car, and b) to try the simple, inexpensive things first. The four modes have nothing to do with the OP's problem.

I wasn't dissing your reply. You wondered about something, and I wondered about the flip side. It was directed at people who have accessed the sensor to replace it or done other fairly major work, when all that needed to be done was to pour some Techron into the fuel tank.
As occurs quite often in posts, we do not have all the information. Was the car acquired some time ago or did the OP acquire the car fairly recently? Has the OP changed the way the car is refueled (e.g., ignition on or off)? Your suggestion is certainly valid, and is a simple thing to check. Your suggestion would be the first thing to try, if applicable. If that doesn't work, then adding Techron is a good second step. Your suggestion does not cost anything, while adding Techron costs a few bucks.
One thing that is quite frustrating is that many different suggestions are made on various threads, but we never find out what the solution was.
Ignorance is bliss.

to the problem he is having if it was lets say, key on Refueling mode
or worse yet, the dreaded 50 minute Recovery mode.
Did you even read and understand the four functions?
Ignorance is bliss.
