We got ours done at the dealership.
actually it was either 300 or 500
I cant friggin remember.

Just give them a call.
Wont take but a second to find out.
Ask for the parts department, tell them your model and year number
that you need an alternator and bam there ya go.

The labor shouldnt really be squat for it.

Before you buy a replacement alternator, you definitely should have your present one tested. There's always the possibility that there is an external wire or terminal that is corroded or it could be a loose connection.

Here's what I would do.
Call the dealership and get a price for the alternator.

Take it in and have them test it. Of course do that before buying one.
The lights I do not think would cause this.
Only way I could see that is if the bulbs were friggin powerful, the alternator was dying anyways, and this is making it worse
(correct me if I'm wrong someone)

Of course leaving them on could run the battery down though.

I highly recommend avoiding the dealership. One, they aren't going to test the alternator for free probably, and two... there are cheaper alternatives. I got my alternator from autozone, comes with a warranty and all that and it was under $200. It's really easy to install with some basic tools. They also have the equipment to check your alt/battery and it only takes a few minutes. You aren't obligated to buy anything either.

Though if you're not capable of doing it yourself then I'd shop around, and maybe even buy an alternator somewhere, the local parts stores are probably gonna be your cheapest. Usually Duralast or those brands is what they offer. ($260 for a PA Performance 130amp from AM, a seemingly "high quality" alt from what I've seen by people.) and have a local shop install it. Should be an hour labor tops, so that's usually around $70-90.

I searched on Fordparts.com. $270-370. For the Motorcraft, obviously not including labor.

I'm having the same issue, turned out to be a butt-load of problems for me and it HAS caused me to be stranded more than several times. Dealer switched the alternator, the starter, the harness, the fuse box and they still cant get it right. I hope that yours is just a simple fix.

i put my third duralast reman from autozone on this morning... OEM went out about 50k..now at 61k and third.... lifetime warranty but getting old. first time ive read of the four different models being used by Ford. Wonder if the PA performance or power bastards models will last longer?....

I would get the Pa performance alternator from americanmuscle.com. I wouldn't even try one from autozone. I'm still waiting for my stock alternator to die. 42,500 miles on it. I datalogged my battery voltage at WOT and it never dropped below 14.2v, which I thought was strange, because I've read the voltage will drop under load.
