Default Anyone running 275 on 9" wheel

Not really tech based, purchased a complete set of 275/40/18 from AM, went to the shop to have them installed and guess what I was turned down because the tires won't fit on. Called AM, and like usual best service out there verified that they should fit and that it was the shop who was probably scared to mount the tires.

I have 275/50/17's on 17x9's. Next i'm putting 295/45/17's on the same rims. These are drag radials of course, not street tires.

****However....... I would not suggest bigger than 255 on a 9 inch wheel for the front unless you are running a 1/4 inch spacer. Im cutting it tight on my 97 Cobra with a 245 and no spacer. I rub my inner fender and have about a 1/4 inch clearance to my A-arms/shock tower/suspension stuff.

I had 275 on my stock 17" tribars that are only 8 inches wide. The drag radials went on easy, the shop struggled mounting regular hard sidewall street tires, but got it done. Try another shop, it can easily be done, and I plan on doing it on the front of my S197 very soon.

What do the specs say for that tire? My 9.5" wide 18" GT500 wheels typically max out at 285 for about 99% of the tire specs that I reviewed. I'm running 275's all around on that wheel.

My front rims are 18x9s, and I have 275/35 Nitto NT05s mounted on them. I haven't had any problems with them at all. They are however the max size that Nitto recommended for it.

The shop is wrong.

9" is indeed wide enough to properly fit a 275/40 tire - even though it's the narrowest recommended width wheel for that size tire, that still means that it is acceptable.
