Strange Noises
OK, So let's run down what I have, then what I hear and then some differential diagnosis....
2008 Mustang GT
Engine: FR Whipple 550 Intercooled HO Supercharger; 39# Injectors, 0 Degree FRPP Plugs, 3.125" pulley (11psi), Walbro high-flow returnless fuel pump (p/n 099-TU282HP-2), FRPP 62mm Polished TB, Mobil 1 5w20 Full Syn, BAMA tuned.
Exhaust:Mac Cut-n-clamp prochamber, Pypes violators axle backs
Driveline: Exedy Mach 500 Clutch, Exedy LW Steel Flywheel, Exedy Hydraulic TOB, Axle Exchange aluminum drive shaft, Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter, Mobil 1 Full Syn ATF
Suspension: Steeda: Proaction shocks and struts, sportline springs, Steeda front/rear adj. sway bars, Steeda chromoly lower control arms, whiteline lower control arm brackets
Pending Install: Mac LT Headers, Autometer wideband, Steeda "lowered" UCA (non-adj)
Cosmetic: 2011 GT/CS Anthracite 19x8.5" OE Wheels; 255/45/19 Front, 275/40/19 Rear
Problem(s):
Before install of LCA/Brackets:
While driving, I would hear a "rotational" noise, when the clutch is depressed, the noise goes away. This noise ONLY happens above 3k rpm in 4th and 5th gear. It resonates, which makes me believe it's around the bellhousing area because that amplifies it. Attempts to record the noise fail due to other road noises etc. When I remove the boot while driving I hear it loader through the tunnel. This noise just started within the last 2 months, car is typically a daily driver, but I have been driving my SUV while trying to figure out what is wrong with it.
This past week I installed LCA and Brackets. After ensuring everything was tightened under ride height, I took it for a test drive. Now I hear what sounds like a higher pitched rotational whirring sound. Sounds like it is more towards the front of the car.
No issues shifting into or out of any gear. Even under hard load (5500 rpms in 1-2, 2-3).
So now I have 2 noises.
Some possible causes:
Bad TOB - it was replaced a year ago, but I used exedy not OE
damaged clutch plate assy
something with the fw
low fluid? or other issues with the transmission itself
front yoke joint on DS
Rear yoke joint on DS
Now a bad pinion angle? (what's the best way to check this w/o a lift "under load"?
Anyhting else? I am at a loss here... I just want to blow this car up some days.
