Maybe if it buys you some piece of mind, install a manual switch for the fan? I did that on a motorcycle that I had where the automatic switch would not turn on the fan until just before the temp gauge would enter the red zone. Only happened in traffic. I would just switch on the fan whenever I got jammed up in traffic and switch it off again when better underway. Manually controlling the fan like that kept temps to no more than 1/2 scale and made me a lot less anxious.

Not really a concern that I need to install a switch, it is still very new car with about 16k miles.
