Default 3M Paint Protection Film

Anybody try installing 3M's paint protection film on their own? Successful? I'm thinking about trying to do it myself and save lotsss of cash. I've applied racing stripes and tint before, I assume the process is similar.

Let me know if anybody has tried it, tips and hints are much appreciated

From my experience, having it installed on two trucks, my Mustang, and a GSXR, spend the money and get it professionally installed. You may get similar results, similar, but a professional installation will look perfect and take 1/16 the time it would take you to attempt to DIY. I did my motorcycle myself, which I'm happy with and wasn't to bad, BUT...all the small pieces for a bike are very manageable.

Thanks for the reply. I still might try application myself due to the almost 800$ they want to do it for me. ridiculous.

Mine cost $625, that included a custom CDC classic chin spoiler application, two custom pieces under my louvers, and the standard whole nose kit including headlights and fogs. $800 is way to much. I paid $600 to have my 2011 Tundra CrewMax done....whole nose, 4 fender flares, mirrors, inside door handles, headlights and fogs.

I agree 800 is wayy too much. I guess that's what I get for living in the Washington D.C. area. Overpriced EVERYTHING. I found the film (custom cut with full hood, fenders, and bumper) for just over 200. That seems more reasonable to me, now i just have to figure out how to install it with good results. I have done vinyl on cars before with great success Im just a little uneasy about PPF.

Where in VA do you live man? I live in Woodbridge. My fathers about to do the front bumper and grill of his CTS with clear plasti-dip. I hope it turns out well since I gave him the idea without knowing anyone thats done it.

I'm about 5 minutes from Dulles Airport. Clear plasti-dip on the bumper?? I'm not sure I would trust that on the paint. I barely trust the 3M film to not harm my paint. (yes, I'm slightly over-protective about my car. but then again, what mustang owner isn't?)

I would trust the 3M film less haha. Plasti-dip has been proven over and over not to do harm to many surfaces. I have yet to hear a horror story.
