Default 2011 GT/CS grill options

Hey all,

I just picked up a 2011 California Special GT. It comes with the "chrome-ish" grill and I really want to change that. At fist I really liked the Saleen grill, but then read many bad reviews. The Tuxedo black CS grill is like $400 and I am not paying that for a grill. So, I understand a normal GT grill won't fit and I'm not sure if a V6 grill will fit or not. Does anyone know what my options are? If a V6 grill works, then that will save me lots of money!

Thanks everyone!

If the black version what you want, why not just paint or even just plasti-dip it to get the look you want?

Thanks for the reply. I have not ruled that out yet. I just really wanted to maintain my old grill in case I need to swap it back. Plus I have not had great success in painting anything! I did plstidip my old horse emblem on the grill of my 06, but just never cared for how it looked over time. The front end takes some abuse.
I see some people have had success in putting the tri bar pony on the Saleen grill, but still wanted some other options. If I can be sure that I can use a V6 grill, I'd go that route. Just hate to take the chance. I've seen threads where people have put CS grills in their V6's and it lined right up and fit, I'm assuming it works the other way as well. Just wanted to confirm.

Thanks for the input though!

The GT grill should fit as the GT and CS use the exact same bumper cover. Only the lower grill insert is different.

From what I'm reading, the bumper isn't the issue. The grill surround is different on the CS than the GT.

The entire CS upper grill should pop out and a GT grill should snap in place and fit. Unless you don't have a stock bumper cover on it.

Ok, cool. I saw this http://www.cjponyparts.com/grille-su.../p/AR3Z8419AA/ and thought that I may need this in order to use a standard GT grill.

Grille Surround for 2010-2012 GT Mustangs.

On the 2010-2012 GT there are two different grilles available. Most GTs come with fog lights in the grille. The California Special comes with a billet grille without fog lights, and thus a slightly different grille surround.

The Roush Billet grille (G111) will not fit in the GT/California Special grille surround.

This grille surround would be required when installing a Roush Billet grille on a California Special, Boss 302 or GT without factory fog lights in the grille.

I also found this....

The Answer is yes, you need to get the California Special Grill surround BR3Z-8419-AA from Ford and have it painted and then you can run the California Special Grill, Pony Package grill or any of the other V6 Grills.
If you still want the Fogs you can get the CS/GT Lower Facia BR3Z-15200-AA.

ok, I see what you mean. You would need the entire upper grill setup (grill and surround) to put the GT grill in. Its due to the fog lamps needing a relief cut in the top of the surround.
