It is possible to negate the 3.73 mpg loss though a DS, bigger TB, headers and ported intake manifolds. I always wonder if anyone would be getting over 35mpg with 2.73 gears and al those mods.

Wouldn't selectable gears be the best of both worlds? Gear Vendors makes a 2 speed overdrive/ under-drive gizmo that gives you selectable 1.0 or 0.78 ratio. Combine that with 4.1 gears, and you essentially have selectable 4.1 or 3.2, performance or economy your choice. Of course the gear vendors gizmo ain't cheap, and a drive shaft mod is required to get in it, so it might be cheaper to just buy a second car.

Not sure what the conversation has been, BUT I love my 4.10's!!!!!

Yea, I might get 22-24mpg on the highway and 19-21 in town, but this car is meant for fun.

If you're doing long trips like you mentioned in #8 above, then I'd go no higher than 3.55's. You'll still lose a bit in mileage but not enough to worry about . It's just a tad bit painful watching the tach when you're running 70 MPH or so and were used to the engine revs with the 2.73's.

Just finished a 3116 mile road trip, Texas to Chicago & back down in my '12 V6 manual w/ 2:73 rear, I averaged 30.5 miles per gallon and had the cruise set at 70-90mph (Texas & Oklahoma has 75mph speed limits, SH-130 Toll in Texas has 85mph speed limit)
The car stock is absolutely perfect for road trips, and has plenty of passing power at speed even with the 2:73's.... Fuel costs arent going to go back down, Personally I think you should consider just keeping the 2:73's, the car is fine stock, and still passes many other cars out there no problem.

But if you really wanted, I would suggest swapping out the 2:73 for the 3:31's... but no higher unless you plan on tracking the car or autocrossing it. Just my .2¢
