for $3k, you might want to just find something that runs, and forget about trying to build something.

Well if you're gonna wait until next year then I suggest saving some more money (you're gonna need it), do some research, price out the parts you want for the budget you'll have, and start studying up on how to do the conversion. You got plenty of time so don't rush into anything. And don't buy cheap parts, you'll regret it. Are you planning to buy a built engine or are you gonna buy the parts to have an engine built?

well as for the price its gunna be for my college high performance project thats why its kinda cheap. I need to build the engine from ground up. My class however has all the cnc machines and such so i don't have to pend the 800 bucks for that

I would just hunt down a 87-97 f-150 equipped with a 351w, yank it out, give the shortblock a good refresh with new bearings, hone the cylinders, replace rings, good cam, etc. Then go as crazy as you want on the top end.

I'm about to start a 351w build myself and this is my plan. about to go pick up the engine next week for $800. If you can find a similar price, that leaves you a good $2000 to build it up with your budget. You can at least get a good head/cam/intake combo with that. More than likely you'll even have a little left over for some headers as long as you don't go with ceramic coated.

Since you're doing this for a class you should already have access to stuff like torque wrenches, measuring tools, and assorted lubes and misc stuff. Still, you always want to set aside an extra couple hundred $$ at least so that you have money to buy little things that you didn't plan for.

Use a 69-74 351w block if you can find one. and then go from there, you can find stock 351w short blocks for 4-600 bucks.
you going Carb or EFI?

lol so i kinda forgot about this post lol oh well, my plans have changed since i last posted, im going wit a 347 stroker. my buddy has a old 5.0 that he is gunna sell me lol. im still gunna get the cam and stuff. the car is a 5-speed with 3.73 gears. this is going to be for my college project next year. do you guys think that 2 grand can do it? i realize i wont get huge power but in the mid 300's would be nice. im gunna buy the block for like 200, then im gunna get the scat 347 stroker kit for 799.
