I couldn't get another v6, first thing people ask you when they hear you got a mustang, "you got the v8 or the v6?" as soon as you say v6 you can see the look in their eyes when they say "oh...", and then you gotta go on a 3 paragraph speech about how your v6 is much better than the regular stock car and all the mods you have done to it...(civic owners have to do this frequently) Not to mention all the jokes about missing 2 cylinders or "should of had a v8" references you will always hear.

I feel like s197 with close to 100k miles or more is the new sn95, people see a 'stang' for cheap and snag it - but they don't have no passion or dedication. Which is why I'm getting a s550 asap. Nothing against sn95s, I love the car but its too old now, and even if it can run 9s, most people (who are not enthusiasts) will only see one thing - It's old, but not old enough to be cool. If you really care, I would try to sell that 4.0 ASAP and try to get back as much money as you can, and wait for the s550 or at least a 2011+ GT. (and make sure it's premium edition!) You can make almost any motor last 300K+ if you take care of it, but the 4.0s were always dogs.

My 4.0 is great! Or, at least I think so. I was wondering though, I've owned my 2007 for just over one year and want to know when do change the plugs? I had it serviced three times over the year, oil change, tire rotation, etc.

Any help on this?

Additional info: I travel from Des Moines, IA to Indianapolis, IN (490 miles each way). Drive there, drive around Indy for a weekend and then drive home and it takes three and a half tanks of gas. Does that sound ok?

How many gallons did you pump? You can figure out the math what your MPG was.

The 4.0 is an over-built kludge of a tank of an engine. other than some timing chain issues the first year it was introduced, I don't know of any endemic issues with this engine. The one in my Ranger seems perfectly fine but I've only got 31,000 miles so far.

I use full synthetic oil and change that and filter every 10,000 miles along with tire rotation. I changed my Autolite plugs at 110,000 miles. I just turned 130,000 miles the other day. I have not checked my MPG since retiring 6 years ago or driving 110 miles a day, mostly expressway. At that time, I was getting 28-30mpg during summer season w NO Ethanol. I never did check mpg during winter seasons. Only mode I made was CAI for improved mpg.
Hope this helps.

OK, I've done this same routine about ten times. I figure the miles to be about 1000 highway and about 300 city. I reckon about 45 gallons for the journey; that gives me about 28.8mpg for the whole journey. My Toyota Corolla does the same mileage on about 37 gallons; that is aboutt 35.1mpg.
Notice I said 'about', I'm never sure of the exact miles travelled or exact gas used.

I would sell it and buy a GT. Much better car and engine. V6s are interference engines and will self destruct if you lose a sprocket or chain. And you have 3 sets!

Of course I'd love 35mpg and 305hp with the 3.7L, but I have no complaints about my 4.0L.
25-30mph highway, and good power, with ZERO problems at 110,000 miles.

Every Ford I've ever owned gave me 100-200,000 trouble free miles. Never had a bad experience with any Ford Mercury or Lincoln I ever had. My blood runs blue 😀
