Is the 4.0L V6 Engine Good or Bad
#41
Wow it has been a bit since I have replied last, I know have just shy of 180,000 miles and still going good. This is all I have changed.
Alternator
Thermostat and housing
Inner/outer tie rods
Brakes
1 blend door(I believe another is going out)
Serpentine beltX2
I would say it has been good to me and she has gotten me coast to coast.

If you are picking up a new 4.0 I would recommend the following:
* Replace the timing chains (especially if the engine is out)
* Replace the thermostat housing and Tstat
* Replace the water pump at the same time
* Replace EGR valve, they tend to go bad around 100k
Otherwise the engines should be good for over 200k miles if they have been taken care of.
Good luck😁👍

The timing chain guides are what got me. Mine made it to 230K miles. I bought it in 2015 with 155K miles. The timing chain guides are plastic so they are going to break. There are 3 chains that are almost impossible to change without pulling the engine out and doing almost a complete rebuilt. One in front, one in back, and one underneath. I opted to swap out the engine with a used one with 100K miles for $600. It was a 3- man job and took us 4 days but it was much better than the $2,200 price the Mech gave me for the timing chain job. Used motor running strong!

V6 running strong
My V6 has close to 180,000 miles, still running strong. Someone else on here already said it, maintenance is key. I can tell if something doesn't sound just right and try to fix things before they actually break all the way also.
