99 GT intermittent stalling w/PO340 HELP ANYBODY?
My son recently bought this car 1999 GT 4.6 SOHC 72K (happy for him he switched from his civic!) after couple of days SES light came on, I'm pretty familiar with procedure to diagnose and have connections to a shop with access to a scanner and such. Code is camshaft sensor circuit PO340 changed sensor only $30 light still came on. Started to get a little more involved & noticed if you clear the code when you drive the light will stay off it is when you shut the car off & come back to restart upon the FIRST attempt to start the car if it stalls, when you crank it the second time it will start and that is when SES light comes on and you get the cam sensor code, but it doesn't do it every time. Alldata chart for this is actually in the no-start section where the first question is actually does the vehicle start? If yes it says problem is not cam sensor related and then diagnostics gets more intense. Wanted to see if anyone has experienced this problem or can help? Have also checked the basics, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, cleaned IAC, Throttle plate

RE: 99 GT intermittent stalling w/PO340 HELP ANYBODY?
I have a 2002 GT with 35k miles that same code. My car starts then dies the first time. I do have more of a problem though. The cars engine misses up until highway speed (absolutely drives you crazy). What i've done to fix the problem- Took to the ford dealer, (replaced the camshaft position sensor) no fix. In fact the ford dealer refunded all my money and admitted they weren't sure what the problem was and that theyd'e just be throwing parts at it. Then, I took it to a local garage with a good reputation and right away they thought it was the PCM (computer). Replaced, same code came up, kept a total of 1-1/2 weeks, minus the two days for autobody damage they did when one of the mech. backed into the front bumper and smashed the lights and ruined the bumper (getting very pissed now). Charged 600$ for new computer. The local garage said my car is being a booger & that I need to drive it for a couple days so the new computer can capture information for ford to help troubleshoot the problem. Sounds like B.S. to me. Can anyone help in this situation? Dang car still has the origional tires on it!!!

RE: 99 GT intermittent stalling w/PO340 HELP ANYBODY?
I just bought a 2002 GT and I have the exact same issue. The car is very hard to start after driving it. It will start then just die immediatley. The only way to start it sometimes is to hit the gas a lil bit while turning the key. Also the check engine light is on with the same po340 code for the camshaft sensor. We already replaced the sensor and thats not the problem. I have NO idea what this problem could be?? Can any one help??????????

That's a good question. He may have posted on the other boards but didn't get any results. It may be because he is a newb like yourself and just doesn't know the procedure yet. It may be because most of these codes know no gender and are the same no matter what the breed so a faulty code in the 1999 may be the same issue in the 2007. Different cars, same issues (maybe).

This is your alternator.. Was a mystery problem for so long.
Try to start the car, get a slight misfire and then you can only try again. Change the alternator and problem solved.
