Tire width should not be correlated with traction. In theory the wider teh tires you have the more traction you will get.
What kind of rubber are your running?

if you put different sized tires on a vehicle with t/c and abs you cannot change the size because the computer will not know how fast the tire is spinning compared to the rotor, abs ring, rear end gear, ect. your best bet is to go back with your stock size.
