Default I have a delimma

So right now I can catch a good deal on some Long tube headers. I originally havnt planned on getting them but they seem worth it. My problem is I just spend an @ss load of money on my catted x pipe and feel stupid havning to get rid of it. my question to you guys is do you think I can have a shop just rework the x pipe to fit the long tubes or would it just be easier/cheaper to get a matching mid-pipe. I have to have cats. Cops in my count actually do do a visual check and have even checked for my cats before. Thanks for the help!

I had my O/R X cut down for my longtubes. I'm sure a competant muffler shop could easily so yours.[8D]

Wow you have to modify your midpipe if you get headers? That sucks. I thought the headers just bolt right up to whatever midpipe you have.

Not for long tube headers. You need a shorter mid-pipe because of the longer headers. And yea it does suck lol I wish I would have known I was going to get them in the first place[:@]

So the best thing to do is to get both headers and midpipe at the same time? (even if they are longtubes?) then there is no need to modify anything? Or do you have to modify the midpipe no matter what if you get long tubes?

I was thinking of doing midpipe then headers, but since I can't afford both at the same time I might end up getting shorties headers so I dont have to chop up my midpipe.

Mine were 3" with a 3-bolt flange. We welded a 3" to 2.5"reducer w/ flange to the X pipe ....piece of cake[8D]

If I could do it again I would have saved up for both. Only aa mid pipe made for longtubes will fit longtubes otherwise you will have to modify them. I think getting both at the same time will be your best bet or you could just have yours modfied. And I think shorty headers dont do crap for our cars. I think muscle mustangs and fast fords did a test with them and actually lost power.
