I have a GT with the 3650 transmission and an MGW shifter. Under normal driving conditions when i shift into 2nd sometimes it does not shift very smoothly, you can feel it grind a little and sometimes hear it; however, when im at WOT and shifting from 1st to 2nd it shifts perfect(shifting around 5000-5500 rpm). When driving normally i usually shift anywhere from 2000-2500 rpms from 1st to 2nd, is this too high at low speeds? I have the stock gears in the car, I'm thinking maybe the 2nd gear syncho is bad. My car currently has 38000 miles. Please give me your opinions and advice, and if it is a bad synchro, how much is it usually to repair the synchro? Thanks.

I had the same problem in my 86 5.0 if it grinds more at high rpms then its good chance its the synchros. the parts not too too expensicve, but damn the labor is!!!. also maybe try chcking the tran fluid may be part of cause.

I'd check the fluid. mine grinds into reverse sometimes. I'm going to see about draining and filling it up with new fluid once it warms up. I have a feeling it needs it.

Change the fluid and use the correct amount. At first the specs called for like 4 quarts. I think it is close to 3 now.
