Imight need to replace my tranny so i was wondering what can go in it? It's an early 2001 GT so it has the t45. Will a t5 or a 3650 swap right in or do i need other things as well? Also,can i put a t56 in it and if so what else do i need to change out?

T56s need some cutting on the cross-member, custom length driveshaft, and possibly different clutch/flywheel setup.. Not to mention a new shortthrow and all the other stuff to go along with it. I'd love to do a t56 swap one day

do a 3650, they are MUCH MUCH better. T45s are very poorly made. Shame on Tremec. What are you doing with ur broken trans?

I say go T56 every time. It's not a hard swap and you don't need to hack up anything. The only thing you have to do is move the trans. support back a little, but it's easy. On each side it's held on by two bolts. Just move it back to where the front hole on the support is lined up w/ the rear hole on the car and drill new rear holes accordingly. You can have your stock shaft shortened, that's not a big deal at all. It actually fits better than the stocker.

Now, I am writing this assuming that it's the same as a Cobra. I say go T56. Ebay has one for about $1500. You can usually find them off of an 03-04 Cobra for a decent price. It really depends on your goals and budget. If you can afford it, go T56 and don't ever look back.

thanks for the help guys. i also stumbled across the how to thread so i did some reading on there too. i might be able to keep my tranny but ill have to drop it and open it up to look. the problem is i have no 3rd and 4th all of the sudden andeverybody is telling me syncros and forks.if not ill probably try to pick up a 3650.

I'd put $100 on it that ur 3-4 shift fork broke. Just like mine did. While ur in there u might want to do synchros too. And stop shifting so hard, lol. Keisler makes an aftermarket rebuild kit with stronger forks and better synchros for less than $500. I agree with jlg though, t56 ftw. And if you get a new trans, I call dibs on ur old one!
