4.6 Snapped Rod....what now?
Well I was getting ready to do the PI intake swap on my car last wknd and on my 2hr drive home to my parents house (I'm in college and needed to use their garage), the stang snapped a piston rod? My uncle is a retired ford SVT engine designer/tester so he came over and we checked it out. Took all the plugs out and rotated by hand, the drivers side rear cylinder the piston didnt move so he got a screwdriver and was able to push the piston down. So he said the connecting rod is broken at least, and we could see the cylinder looked like it had a bunch of coolant in it. Needless to say that motor is done (had 109k on it). Were going to be either getting a 4.6 Long block, or whatever else I decide on. I'm thinking since I have to drop a new motor in anyway, why not go bigger and better? Let me know what kind of ideas you guys have. I was thinking 5.4, or at least 4.6 with some mods on it. I'm staying NA no power adder. Thanks for any input or if you guys have a longblock you wanna sell me

n/a no power adder there is no other route than a 5.4 4v out of a navi; find one and drop it in. I saw an NMRA video of a BONE stock 4v 5.4 with nothing but a CAI and exhaust run 11.xx @ 12x

Would it be worth it to buy a bare block, get all forged internals, and get some PI heads, intake, etc. I'm trying not to spend a ton of money right now, I just bought a house and have a kid on the way, but I cant afford to drive my ram 2500 either since I get about 8mpg haha.

if you were wanting not to spend alot of money then the 5.4 would NOT be the way to go. not only do you have the cost of the engine and accessories, you have to get complete wiring harnesses, ecm and new gauge cluster. alot of time, work, & money involved, but would be kick ***. then you could put the Lightning SC on it also.[8D]

If your on a budget do not build a DOHC from scratch. im currently building a cobra motor from scratch with a few extras on it. I started with a bare block and bought pretty much everything seperate and i went over my budget and still have to buy all internals, valvetrain, and injectors yet. plus i will be doing all the work to it myself so if you are going to take it to a shop and have stuff done thats even more money. the DOHC are expensive to build.

If you're wanting to make good power N/A even down the road, you won't be able to do it as cheaply or easily as you would with a 5.4 4v. I saw one on corral.net for 1900 bux with no intake. You could buy a PI intake and use some spacers (MMR makes them) for less than 500 bux and then have a 12 second sn95 that could do job of the RAM when you wanna pull your boat.
