Default Power steering problems need some advice

Hey Hey
I am having some issues with my 1996 GT it has 125,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago I was driving and the power steering **** the bed and now doesn’t work. I bought it by my local mechanic to take a look at it. He said that the power steering lines and pump need to be replaced and that I need a new steering rack. He said that the parts are very expensive for this year and it wouldn’t be worth fixing. I want to fix it but I don’t have much of money to dump into the car. Just wanted to know how I would go about doing this and the cheapest way to do it. Thanks

Do your brakes still work fine?

I cant see how the pump lines and rack all went at once..

His idea of "very expensive" and mine differ--I just checked Advance Auto (Parts America) and the rack is $134, the pump $50, and the hoses $36 (pressure) and $25 (return) for a grand total of $245...
