Question Cant get the theft light off

Just bought a 97 GT convertible for $650.00. Starts up, has a slight knock in the motor. Runs for about 5- 7 seconds then cuts off. Have no key remote for the alarm. Any way to reset this without going to the dealer ?

the mustangs have never come with an alarm. if there is an alarm on there now, it is NOT from the factory. the only way to get around it at that point is remove the alarm.

are you using the PATS key with the transponder in it? has the key been programmed?

I once asserted this vehemently as well, and while it's true there was no factory installed alarm, there was a cheap-*** dealer installed alarm system that had a Ford logo on it--here's what I found out about it...

Yeah, I have no idea what that POS actually did--if I had one it would be the first thing I'd yank out...

its probably similar to the factory thing on my dad's dodge truck. theres a small plug looking thing down near where the hood release button is and it's basically a jumper that runs thru the ignition system. without that plug, certain wires in the ignition circuit are 'open', and cannot get necessary voltages to start the car.

I don't relate well to alarm systems--I never lock my car, and only put the windows up if it looks like it might rain. This started years ago when I favoured convertibles and locking it just meant you'd have to replace the top too--wide open the idiot "bad guys" assume there's nothing in there worth having and move on...

Or if it's "that easy" then you're probably being watched!
