Default 02 mustang exhaust gasket

I am new to the site. And i just purchased my first mustang. I need some help.

Does the exhaust flange on the driver side require a dounut gasket. The passenger side I know has a flat looking flange gasket. But the two flanges look nothing a like and my driver side has no gasket and leaks bad.

The exhaust gasket is only on the passenger side. Do you have an aftermarket mid-pipe on your car? Just wondering, cause if you do, the person who owned the car before you may have cause the leak by not putting the mid-pipe on properly.

Its aftermarket exhaust. But thats about all I know about it. How would I go about fixing the leak. It kind of sounds like crap with the bad leak it has.

loosen the flange bolts, pull it down some and put some red rtv around the edges. tighten it back down good, give it a little bit to dry and you should be good to go.

The driver's side has a ball & socket type joint, if tightening the nuts does not seal it up then whoever installed it might have left out the sizing insert that most all after market X and H-pipes come with. The 2-1/4" "ball" on the exhaust manifold does not mate with or seal well to the 2-1/2" socket on the aftermarket pipe, so a 2-1/4" short insert is provided to match them up.

You can see it in this photo from UPR's site:

interesting, so there is no exhaust gasket at the flange on the passenger side? I noticed that when they did my motor swap they used a red liquid sealant there and I thought they half assed it. I do have a passenger side exhaust leak that is driving me nuts and I suspect that is where it is coming from....there is no exhaust gasket there? how did ford seal it from the factory? I have stock exhaust...

There is a gasket on the passenger side--that is stated in post #2 in this thread--about $20 for a good one at any FLAPS...

duh, I guess I don't read so good at 5 a.m. I assume the RTV they used was in lieu of an exhaust gasket, hence my problem...

thanks (again) cliff...

I would go with the Felpro (I did)--99.44 times out of 100.

Less expensive than I remember, but that was almost 4 years ago...
