Default replace temp gauge

I have done a number of tests and have reason to believe that my temp gauge in dash is not functioning correctly.

Questions:
how do I remove
how do I bench test
how do I get a replacement for a 1997 svt cobra gauge?

I see no point in replacing a "dummy gauge" get an aftermarket gauge and know what your temp really is

Default back to the original question

I have not taken this apart yet. Would it be possible to use any 4.6 dash gauges and replace the backing to make it white?

I keep the car completely stock and try to keep maintanence costs to a minimum. (Not cheap, just use recycled parts when it makes sense).

Default I am looking for a cheaper fix

yes I have seen the Cobra dashes from MPS is Atlanta (who are a great outfit), and am looking to just make this work without going for a $300 dash replacement.

Can I change the back color on the gauge? Will these break down so I can use any mustang gauge and use the backing of the cobra? This is only one small part of the gauge cluster and I would buy a Temp/Fuel for the cobra if avail.

Have you tested the sending unit on the coolant cross over? Their are 2 one is for the PCM and one for the gauge

Default I have only been testing the one off of the block

Is there another sending unit to check? I get slight movement of the temp gauge when warm, but never moving into the correct range. I did replace the sending unit in the block.

Any ideas? Thanks for your reply!

Default OK, finally got around to checking this

And I see there are two sending units, or two that look the same. On the front of the engine I replaced the passenger one. Is this the one that goes to the temp gauge?
