New clutch problem - drags - low release
I just finished installing a AMS clutch kit from Carquest after my TO bearing ejected all of its *****. This is the same manufacture my local ford dealer sells aftermarket.
The problem is the clutch kind of releases if I bury the pedal into the floor. The old clutch released about 1/2 way through the pedal throw.
I have checked the auto adjuster.
The TO is in contact with the pressure plate fingers and has tension when I push the release lever.
I have add pre tension to the cable, but the amount added will damage the TO bearing. They are not designed to be under constant high pressures.
I really dont want to just "try another clutch" it was such a PIA the first time.
I dont see how the cable can go bad during a swap.
Please help

Actually the TO bearing is designed to have some preload on it. And it should last the life of the clutch. Every mustang clutch I ever changed always had to have a certain amount of preload on them to fully disengage, and I have done several mustang clutches. Unless you use a firewall adjuster. If you get an oem throw-out bearing they will last.
