Default New 02 GT convert

Just moved my wife up from her 96 V6 convertible (99,000 miles) to an 02 GT convertible (39,000 miles) and have some general questions. Anybody having the same trouble with the convertible top in the passenger back corner, about half way up. Both tops are showing wear in this area, the 06 actually starting to go through the material. Within minutes of taking possession of the car I lost the extra key. Pretty sure I have to get one on ebay and take it to the dealer to get it programmed. Is that correct? If so, does anybody know what they charge to do this? Thought I'd get 2 keys and do the second one myself for the future. Anything else I should know about this car? Only mods I know of are Flowmaster mufflers and some kind of aftermarket air filter (not a K&N). Put about 400 hiway miles on it in the last 2 days (28 mpg!) and really like it.

Thanks.

I have a 2002 GT vert and I have no problems with it. The top probally needs to be replaced. It has been 4 years. You should get the key from ford. They will charge you to program it. I'm noit sure about the price but it's probally around $100 per key. Umm there's not much to know about it. Turn off traction control while racing. If you have an auto make sure to turn off overdrive too. Esp. from a roll.

Sounds good man.

Depending on what kind of key it is, it will cost around $100 per key. I had a theft system put in my and the actually theft programming is in the key, so thats why to make a replica of my key is costs so much.. So you may be able to get it cut for like $70 or something, depends. The local ford dealer will be able to do it.

Things to know about the car... Heh, not much really, I love stangs. Have fun with that convertable top !! I love my 00' GT Vert.

Good luck.

I also have a 00 'vert without that problem. Do you lower the windows before operating the top? That could be part of it, if not.

Thanks for the information on the top. I don't know what it is then. About the keys. I hope nobody is actually paying $100 for a key from the dealer. I did this with my F150: bought the key on ebay ($9 plus like $3 shipping) and did the programming myself. Worked great, but I had two working keys already, the one I programmed was a 3rd. Why have 3 keys, you ask? Because you can program the keys yourself, but you have to have 2 working ones in order to do it. Otherwise, you have to have the dealer do it. I think I'll get 2 keys on ebay, take one to the dealer to have them program it and then do the other one myself. Was hoping someone knew what the dealers charge to program one.

Good news! I found the key I lost. It was under the floor mat. Now to order a 3rd one and program it so I won't have this problem again. BTW, ordered a new FOB on ebay from a guy in Fountain Hills Arizona and got it today. Programmed it and it works great. Cost was $22 to my door. Not sure what the dealer would charge, but I'm sure it would be a ton.
