My buddy is gonna get some cats cut off tommorow. If he gets his PRE-CATS(i guess thats what they are called) is it gonna be louder? Basically he wants it to be louder for cheap(and still have cats) is there any sense in this? Let me know, we are gonna do this tommorow.

taking a set of cats off will make it a little louder, it may actually help with acceleration too. I know for a few years mustangs came with 6 cats (3 pair). up until recently ford only started putting 2 sets of cats on.

Yes 99-04 vehicles had 2 sets per side, which made for some pretty good restrictions. Going to a bassani no cat X pipe or even high flow units will free up alot.

oh for the love of God six cats! I have a 1997 GT and it makes me sad! So redundant. I'm gonna get either a mac or a bbk catted H pipe, which has 2 instead of six...

Yeah that is one way to free up some sound, but it may be a better investment to buy a pipe set up that way rather than hacking up the stock one unless you have the tools.

Also what is his cat-back situation? Stock? If so throw a set of flowmasters or magnaflow or whatever muffler he likes and that will give you some sound. My 97 gt has only flowmaster cat-back and sounds great... will be greater with 4 less cats!

I know 96's came w/ 6, but after that I think they came with 4. It'll make it a little louder and IDK if it'll help out performance so much. I'd just get an aftermarket mid pipe and play it safe. You won't got optimal performance and sound just by cutting cats...

why do we need 6 cats? i think thats a little over kill. i know if you swap out the catted h for a ORx you lose some wight the catted h is like 40 lbs and the O/R is like 18 or something. on the 96's sence we have 6 cats are the first 2 up by the headers precats?

Dont get the precats cut... youll then have to buy mill eliminators or have them tuned out in the computers.
