Gas mileage question
Starting in spring time im gonna have to start using my 98 GT as a daily driver to commute to school, 140 miles each day. is there anything out there i should do that will help my gas mileage? its all high way so the stock 2.73s are gonna have to stay for now, and all i have for performance is bbk o/r h pipe with borla cat back and mac cold air

RE: Gas mileage question
thats nuts!! thats a tank of gas a day!!
getting a full exhaust (so just long tube headers for you) and a throttle body and plenum to go with that intake is all i can thing of. plus a tune for mileage. they just create less restrictions in airflow so im pretty sure none of these will decrease it. and dont shift over 2k and dont go wot.

RE: Gas mileage question
oh man, I just had my first "beater" experience. I think I snapped the axle in my saleen so I was driving our families 98 V6 stang -not much of a beater really. but anyway my buddy and I in seperate cars were driving down the road when we saw someone we knew driving her car. so we decided to go catch her and then box her in. well she drives a mini cooper and when she slammed on the brakes to get "un boxed" and then floored it to get around us my car was barely faster than hers. All I could think to myself was "if only i had that supercharged V8"
I dont think I would ever want a beater (unless I lived in the snow) because when people see me in a car other than [i]my[i] mustang I have this constant feeling of "if only they knew what I really drive"
the worst part was that we hadnt seen the girl sicne i had gotten the saleen so its not like she knew I had a sweet ride or anything. Its always nice to know people admire your wheels, you know?

RE: Gas mileage question
A steeda timing adjuster will give an increase in mileage. You have to use Steeda or March UDP's to mount the timing adjuster to though.I saw an increase of + 2 mpg's with mine set at +3*.

RE: Gas mileage question
Most likely it'll be cheaper to pick up an old crappy 4 cylinder and you'll get to keep the miles off of your cool car.
If you MUST drive your mustang than a tune is going to make the biggest difference. They can lean it out or advance the timing to make the car more efficient but you'll lose the buffer that they built in incase something like radiator failure causes you to run hotter than normal. Basically if there is no pinging or knocking, you're ok. Other than that, get light weight wheels and try to lower your cars weight. If you have an automatic the tune will help you even more because it can be set to very conservative shift points. Beyond that only driving habits will make a difference... Going at 55mph is better on gas than 75mph but it'll feel like forever by the time you get there. Making sure not to use A/C will also marginally help gas milage. If you don't already have underdrive pulleys, they might be a good option to consider as well.
