only way to get a real reading is fill it till the pump clicks, do not top it off...then drive atleast 100 miles, although its better if you wait a full tank....fill it again until it clicks....divide how many miles you just drove between fillups by the number of gallons it just now took to fill it up (the second time) and it will give you the most accurate reading possible
bam...nailed it.

you guys have been calculating your mileage inaccurately. you guys are probably in the general ballpark give or take some miles but its not accurate.

i don't see how you're getting better gas mileage then ford was able to achieve in the perfect scenario. wouldn't you think they would want the best number possible for advertising reasons? come on now...

That is not the best way to calculate MPG's my friend. I am sorry to say not every gas pump is going to click off at the exact same point and even if you go to the exact same pump at the same gas station, youre still not going to get the pump to click off at the exact same time. So by topping off your tank to the highest you can get it coming up the filler neck, driving however long you feel like, then filling it all the way up the neck again and taking the mileage off the trip odometer and dividing that number by the number of gallons is the best way to be accurate.

Dude... go to any forum and ask what they are getting.. Every car gets better MPG then advertised. Looks at Corvettes getting 30+ on the highway or priuses getting WAY better than advertised.. or VW GTIs getting well above rated MPG. Hell my moms F150 gets 22MPG mixed.. and thats calculated from the computer.. well above what it should. She should only get 18.5 mixed..

Most cars are like that.

Those mileage computers are optimistic at best. Not saying this is true across the board but the tendency for people on Forums and on the internet in general is to exaggerate so you really gotta take all MPG calculations with a grain of salt.

The best I have gotten in mine is like 23.5. I hear of people getting around 26. My 98 was about the same. I dont get on my car all that much and i drive a lot of highway and freeway. I would say on average I get around 21.

you really wanna start splitting hairs with me over some dumb ****? its better than reading the damn gauge and calculating mpg off of that....ive never heard of anyone who fills their tank until its spilling out onto the ground, but if thats your thing than have at it....ill make sure to start bringing to light all the dumb little **** you say since you really wanna start this type of game
