rear end sqweek after complete rebuild? HELP!!
I've had my mustang for almost 6 months now. i started on my wish list of parts, which began with beefing up the rear end. i replaced the factory stuff with 31 spline axles, 3.73 FMS gears, a FMS traction loc diff, new bearings, and a differential cover with carrier bearing load adjusters. the first set of gears whined and there was a sqweek (most noicable at low speeds) then the ABS began to act crazy. i took it back and had the gears replace with a new set and the shop owner found one of the ABS reluctance wheels was warpped. he replaced everything for me at cost, but the sqweek is still there!!! any ideas??? i dont want to tear up all the new stuff i had put in!

ok, upon further investigation..... when the noise starts, if i hold the brake pedal down with any force the noise stops? my guess is the shop messed up putting in the rear brakes after the rear end work? possibly forgot to put back the hardwear on the pads prior to reinstallaion? any guesses?

If it is the pads squeaking get some of this:
Pull the pads, clean them and the piston/seating surfaces with brake cleaner, then spray the pads with a "thickish" (not gooey thick) coat of the Brake Quiet and reassemble.
I never install pads without using this stuff...

Mine just started doing the same thing after I had the rear end rebuilt with 31-spline stuff less than 200 miles ago. I thought it was the brakes cause they were a bit low, so I replaced them along with the fronts. New pads and rotors and the noise is still there. When I took the brakes back off to investigate, it seems like the driver's side axle has a bit more play in it than the passenger side.
This means that the driver's side brake is the only thing keeping it from walking back and forth which is causing excess rubbing and therefore a squeak coming from the rear end. I'm gonna call the diff shop tomorrow and see when he can take a look at it. I'll let you know what he finds!!

well, i found the problem.... and fixed it!!! it seems that the new axles were just slightly (like a 32nd of an inch) longer than the stock ones!? so when everything warmed up the rotor started to make contact with the bracket that holds the rear caliper in place.i took everything off and checked to see if there was any play in the axles, and that checked out fine. so next i just added a shim to the bracket before i put it back. then i reinstalled the rotors, pads and calipers........and presto, the sqweek is gone!!!!!!
