Rear Brake Upgrade
#11
Don't bother with upgrading rear brakes on the SN95.... will not do you any good at all Even with a manual rear brake bias valve ALL the way open, you won't get any help at all. How do I know....? Because I did this mod and was a complete waste of money.

So since this became active again, why do the Cobra rears require the axles to come out, but the 13" rear upgrades don't? (I've never seen the Cobras in person, but I had 13" rears on the V6R that took about 20 mins to swap on.) Is it more involved that pulling the rotor, taking off the caliper bracket, adding a new one and putting the new rotor on?

I have not see the V6R brakes, of which you speak, but they must be designed to retrofit the existing brackets of the GT's. Much the same way as the Cobra "R" calipers adapt directly to the fronts and are a VERY easy upgrade, as you already know ) The Cobra rears were designed by Ford to be installed prior to the axles, so they were just meant to fit that way. I am sure somebody could make an adapter to avoid the trouble, but the market would be hard pressed to justify it.
As you already know, without serious upgrades to rear calipers (non-Mustang OEM) and some suspension mods, there is just not enough gain to justify any upgrade to the rear of an SN95 anyway, IMO. I have done such mods and can go back in time with a stomp of my brake pedal
