Wow that doesn't look safe at all. I guess the guy could afford tires but not wheels.

so back to my original question. anybody know where i can find a killer deal on 305's for an 18 inch rim? jazzer is saying its to wide for a 9.5" wide rim but i strongly disagree. it will pop out past the rim a little but nothing crazy. i currently have 285's on the rear rim now and its flush with the rim.

Jazzer knows what he's talking about, and your question has been answered. In fact, your question has been answered multiple times. Almost everyone here is going to say what the guy from AM and Jazzer are saying.

Just because the tire will go on the rim doesn't make it safe or logical to do so. If you don't like the answers you're getting then move on and forget about it.

Just because one "can" mount an oversized wheel, does not make it a good idea Do some additional research, Choosing a new tire is a good place to start, you will find out why an oversized tire is not helpful in any practical way and offers zero additional grip. In fact, going so far as the image pictured above... it is downright dangerous!

Jazzer

I would say save some cash and get a wider back set of rims. Maybe a 10.5 deep dish and go with the 305 or 315 whatever. Anyway safty first...Well thats what we say at work. But seriously, from that picture it looks like that suckers getting ready to swallow the rim. Might just spin right off under a good burn out or hard take off. Might want to reconsider...

Most of the pictures of 285's on 10" rims look to me like the tire is too small for the rim. It seems like a 295 would be a better choice, but that's just my opinion on the looks from pictures.

Shouldn't the tread be about the same width as the rim?

Coming from a guy who worked at a tire dealer, do not put that tire on that rim as everyone said. You'll get better traction and handling as well as tire wear from a properly matched set. You have to understand radial tires as well as low profile tires before you can say the tire doesn't stick out far enough from the rim. Listen to all the above and I promise you it will be better in the end. Take a step back and listen to some of the vets on here they know what they're talking about. If youre looking for a wide look as said above get a wider rim. Do it right or don't do it at all.

That being said that size is hard to find all together nvm cheap. When it comes to tires don't cheap out or you'll be sorry when the rear end comes out and you wreck you 9k dollar car because you wanted to save a few hundred bucks. That's assuming you don't hurt yourself or others on the road on the process too.

I run 295/35/18 on an 18x10.
Part of it will also be the brand/style. Some brands run wider than others. My 295 BFG was physically wider than a 305 from Nitto mouted on a similar width rim. The same 295/35 in a Pilot Sport was a bit narrower as well. It was more or less flush with the rim edge, where the Goodrich had a little bulge to the sidewall.
