Thinking about buying a Modular Stang...
Whats up guys/girls. I have been out of the mustang game for about 5 years, but have been a part of this forum for a long time and have owned a few stangs over the years. Most recently I had a 94 GT 5.0L with a built 331. Before that a 91 Fox with a built 302. I miss my Mustangs more and more everyday. So... I've been thinking about stepping into the modular years, 99+. Just wanted to get a little bit of information from you guys that drive them. What are the pro's and con's? I have been searching around but really wanted some feedback. I loved my push rod 302's but the support from the aftermarket for these mod cars has grown big time. So this is open for discussion.. lets hear it

Like you, I have been out of the game for a while. I am currently stashing away money like a mad man for a new toy.
Heres my advice: Avoid the 2v and go straight for a 4v. That means either a 96-98 Cobra, 99, 2001, or 03-04 cobra, 03-04 Mach 1. A 2v (GT) can be quick, but your going to waste a whole lot of money trying to make it fast. It aint like our old 302 based motors where you can bolt on power pretty easily. At least with a 4v, you get a little more return on your investment, power wise. If you want to make a GT fast the recipe is simple, you just need a blower with a few supporting mods and your at 400 RWHP easily. but much beyond that, and its pretty costly. The best platform to start on is a 4v, with whatever your goals are. They just respond better to mods. If you do decide to pick up a GT, first thing you should do is gears and a full exhaust, tune. All the other bolt ons are pointless. If you want power out of a 2v, again go straight for forced induction. I had tons of money sunk into my old GT and it was still slow. Especially by todays standards, most family sedans will roast a bolt on GT.
My old 2001 GT was set up for autocross/open track fun. I had full boltons, 3.73s and an IRS as well as a whole host of other goodies. The car was a BLAST to drive. Handled great, but again, if going fast is your thing, it left you wanting.
I should have about 7 grand saved up by september, then I am going cobra shopping. I will say this though, 99-04 GTs are DIRT cheap down here in San Antonio. Most are below 5grand. So its hard for me to overlook them now, even though I know a cobra is the better option. Again, I am going to build a track car, so I will resist the GT price and go for the Cobra simply for the extra power.

Thanks for the fast reply. I have actually been looking at the Cobra's also. You can find a 96-98 Cobra for a fairly reasonable price but I find myself feeling like I want the newer body style simply because I had the 94 in the past. But the price for a 99+ cobra or mach is a little outrageous and if I'm going to spend 20k I'll just buy a new coyote...

From what I remember the 5.0 Fox body guys were always the most active on the forums even in the other sub sections. Although I do appreciate your honest input, it would be nice to hear some other opinions...

UPDATE: 6/28/2015
I did it! I bought my first modular Mustang. I'll post some pictures when I get some time tomorrow but wanted to update the forum.
It is a 1998 SVT Cobra Vert! Super clean. Only 50k original miles. Black with black leather interior. The interior is a 10/10 looks like brand new, the exterior is a 9/10 almost perfect, just a few little imperfections that I am going to have my local paintless dent repair guy bring back to 100%. Tomorrow I am going to spend the day getting to know the car better. It's getting a fresh coat of wax and a detail. I am pretty excited about this car and super happy to be back in the seat of a mustang.. and a Snake to boot!
