Default Stock H pipe....why switch?

Would it be best to just use high flow cats in the stock H pipe? Is getting an after the market H pipe worth it?

Not unless you're doing headers. Sound will increase though

i always switch out the midpipe. i like getting the hi-flow cats, do you see much of a performance gain? no not huge, but you can change the sound quite a bit. If you were doing headers as stated above, yes do it

I have a question similar to the OP. If I have already done axleback exhaust swap, and just plan on doing shorty headers do I need to change the cats or midpipe?

Shorty headers will match up with the stock H. Swapping out the stock H for an offroad midpipe is really just a sound only type of mod. Getting rid of the stock cats can cause your exhaust to trumpet. Its a pulsing type tone that just sucks. Go to youtube to view examples.

I have BBK shorty headers with the stock H pipe and the Roush Extreme catback. The sound is about perfect IMO... not obnoxious, but pretty loud when I get on it. I actually had Kooks headers with catted X pipe on at one point, but it was FAR too loud with the Roush catback... even with the catted X. It was entirely too loud and raspy above 3K RPMs. I don't have big plans on getting tons more power (my current mod list is probably where I'll stay - performance wise), so the shorties with the stock H pipe fit my needs just fine. I actually prefer the sound vs. the other mid pipe I had.

If you go catless, you better make sure you have a well engineering muffler setup that will bring the trumpeting to an almost non-existent level. Go ahead, ask me how I know...

Yes ^and rocket is correct.

Longtubes are loud *** sh*t....Add some cams, no cats and you will be trying to tame it down a lot. I added two sets of resonators under the car to get rid of the trumpeting.

OP if you just want a nice tone increase just get a nice sounding axle back.

I installed pypes H pipe with american thundes. With the cams it was awesome but as 808 said the trumpeting was terrible. Installed metallic high flows and all is good. The car still sounds good. Although I don't set off car alarms anymore in parking garages. Which I always got a kick out of. I wish I could have the idle that I use to have but with exhaust you will have to sacrifice something
