the famed swap
yes, i am going to do the infamous AOD to T-5 tranny swap/conversion in my 1990 GT. I will probably pull one out of the salvage yard. Since i am getting it from a salvage yard, i plan on rebuilding it or atleast tearing it down and inspecting certain peices. before I install the transmission, do you guys have anything ideas on things that I might want to do now, since its out of the car. If anyone has done the swap, please feel free to pass along some comments/recomendations. I printed out the tech article and read over it. Any ideas will be appreciated. thanks in advance.

RE: the famed swap
while the car is sitting do the pedals this is by far the hardest part. once you get this done its a breeze and you won't get burnt out as fast like if you tried to do it all in one swoop. also don't scimp on the clutch you get what you pay for just remember that when your looking at that cheap stiff as hell king cobra clutch get a centerforce clutch. and don't let people tell you you need a new crossmember, computer and trans harness, driveshaft, all the tech pages i used when i did mine said i would need these and it was all lies . the aod stuff is either the same or will work just as good. alot of people have done this on the forum so you have came to the right place for help.

If you are getting a trans from the bone yard you should rebuild it. The friction material on the syncros/blocker rings deteriorates over time and causes difficulty shifting and gear damage. Get a steel throwout bearing retainer.

I purchased my trans kit, two replacement gears, and a how to video from Hanlon Motorsports. Bob Hanlon was very helpful when I rebuilt my trans and had all the parts in stock.

RE: the famed swap
thanks guys for the information that you posted. i am running low on money and seeing as how i have my car parked for the winter, now would be the time to start saving. i am currently in college, so funds are running low, but hopefully by spring time i will run into some money and be able to go ahead with the swap. ive heard nothing bad, so i hope its worth the time.
