Confused about Smog pump and cats

Confused about Smog pump and cats
Ok so i have heard two different stories: I have heard that in order to take out your smog pump you have to first remove your cats, and just recently i heard that's not true you can just take the smog pump out and it wont' make a difference on the cats.? WHich one is true

leaving the cats in with no smog pump can cause them to clog and choke your exhaust system..
If you remove your cats, you should remve the smog pump, because its no longer doing its designed job.

wait dont want to jack this thread but since u already answered his question maybe u can answer mine since i now have an o/r x pipe i should remove my smog pump also i mean am i going to ruin the pump if i leave it on
