Default Why do I have to pump my e-brake?

If I just pull my e-brake up, it will not engage the brake until the handle is sticking way up in the air. However, if I pull it up twice quickly, on the second jerk, the brake will grab immediately and firmly. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

either the cable is all frayed and sticky or your drum brakes need to be serviced. probably a good cleaning and it might free up the cable a little more.

Yea, I agree the drums probably need to be serviced and the cable lubed.

just adjust your rear breaks, pop the little rubber gromit off the back of the drum and tighten them up with a flat head you will be set for a while

Thanks, Hack. It's just that simple? Anything to take into consideration when doing it? Also, I could see if there was just too much slack in the e-brake cable so that it wasn't working too well...but why does pumping it make it work better, if it's not hydraulic? I don't get it.

While we're on the subject, any idea why my rear brakes squeak while applying them lightly? I just had them checked when I had my tires repaired, and they were supposedly in good shape. So why the squeaking? They've done this the whole time I've owned the car. Thanks.

might just need to be cleaned. while doing this jack up the back end up the car the the tires are off the ground take it out of gear and ebrake off so the tires move freely. to adjust them you gotta turn the adjuster. its basically a small sprocket. adjust it till the wheels have resistance to them but not till you cant turn them haha. then do the same thing to the other side
