Default shorter belt for AC removal?

im ripping out my AC tomorrow, and was wonderind if anyone has used a shorter belt w/o the compressor, or do i have to leave the compressor on and rip everything else out. i know they have ac delete kits, but im not interested in that right now, just looking for a chea or free altenative. thanks.

you might have to do the old string method i think i measured 79" for my fox with the a/c and smog removed its 84.5 without the smog pump...

if i remove the compressor, will i have to remove the smog pump because of the way the belt is routed? my car will not pass smog in cali without the pump as far as i know.
