Default Putting Front end together!

Well had a very bad water leak that i havent been able to fix so i tore everything apart and im going to replace all of the seals because i think it was leaking between the intake and the block, but im not 100 percent, because there was 2 puddles on top of the timing cover, and it only leaks when you put water in the upper rad hose so imguessing its the timing cover gasket, so i wanna no if theres any tips besides putting silicone on both sides of the gaskets for a better seal? ALL tips appreciated thanks,

ya know a simple pressure test with a tester could locate the leak.. good possibility it was the underside of the t-stat housing/ gasket..that's right in the same location
