Default Valve cover and oil pan gasket replacement

Hey Guys,
I think its time to replace the valve cover gaskets along with the oil pan gasket. Can anyone tell me how difficult both these jobs are on an 86GT

valve covers would be easy..oil pan i think u gotta lift the motor so u can slide the gasket in..cuz theres not enuf room between the pan n the kmember..thats if ur using a one piece pan gasket which id recommend..lemme know how it goes tho..cuz my pan gasket leaks ..not alot but its always damp lookin around the seal...i figure ill just leave it all till its outta the car someday n gets rebuilt..but hopefully it makes it that long.

Vale covers are easy. But the with the pan I am pretty sure you have to pull the motor to do it because the K member is in the way.

Lift the motor for the pan gasket, that sucks!! Well, I'll start with the valve cover gaskets and see how it goes from there. Any paticular gasket I should go with? or just any off the shelf cork gasket will do? Also, do you have to put sealer on the gasket when you replace it with a new one?

I did both. I did the valve covers and it was like cake. I also did the pan which would be great fully advised and so much easier on a lift which lucky at my school I was able to do it there. I had to un do the steering shaft from the rack and un do the 2 steering rack bolts and slide the rack off but still leave it on the car. I had to also take out the starter and bell housing access cover. un do the motor mount bolts and jack it up un do all the pan bolts and then if you were like me i un did the oil pump bolts because thats the only way you would be able to get the pan off the car with the motor still somewhat in the car. and just push and shove it out and then I cleaned up the pan and painted it and cleaned off the old gasket and got a new oil pump and then with the oil pump just sitting in the pan put the pan back in to place and then bolt up the pump and then the pan and do everything else and take out the distributor and drop the oil shaft in. Thats how I did it. I also used the felpro one piece for the pan and cork felpro gaskets for valve covers. I only used the cork because my friend at a high performance shop told me that its what I should use.

Thanks, valve covers I can handle but the oil pan sound pretty indepth. What to do? I'll start with the valve covers and take a better look at the pan to see how bad it really is.

I'm giving you a heads up to do the oil pan at a shop would be like 450 just in labor. My best bet leave it until you want to pull the motor unless you can get access to a lift.
