Default Turbo 5.0 Carb

Ive been reading alot on blow thru carb setups that you can make yourself and i was kind of thinking about doing this. I have a 650 double pumper and ive read that you can modify them to handle boost. Now i just have some questions the thing i read on it they used a 351 with dished pistons and they stated they had 8:7:1 if i remember right. ON my car i have stock 302 out of a 89 with e7 heads with crane springs and ford b cam, now i know thats not the best setup for boosting but im not looking to make 150 to 200 more HP out of this i just want to run a setup that will give me somewhere around 80 to 90 and be safe on the setup. Maybe while i'm gathering parts i can pick up better heads later. My motor has 80,000 miles on it and i have all new gaskets and seals and i used the ford racing rebuild kit for gaskets. I dont know a whole lot about boost but from what ive looked at on it i think i would start out at 7-8 PSI and go from there till i felt safe. What do you guys think. Also my compression ratio should be stock so. and if i have to i have no problem pulling the heads and putting better head gaskets for boosting and lowering compression. I also have my stock e5 heads with 69cc chambers i could put a little work in ive heard they are good for boost on a budget.

i thought about it but, buying a kenne bell was so much easier. If your good at going through a junk yard, you could probably get away without a whole lot in it. Not sure about the carb though. I looked at what those things cost new and decided to buy a fuel injected stang.

Well i just read a article on rebuilding your carb for boost and how to set your baseline and it doesnt seem any harder then a regular rebuild on a carb. Just got to take a little time to make sure it is sealed up... I think the most i will spend will be on the carb hat i will need to use. I planed on using 2.5 inch aluminized pipe for the piping and using a upside down header on the drivers side and mounting it where my radiator overflow is. does anybody know if my boost level sounds right for the HP i want? And can you use a boost controler to get the boost down that low?

it should be fine in the hp numbers. You could always do some porting on the exhaust bump to help it get there a little easier. Not really sure on the boost controller. I would think it would have effect on the pressure the BOV opens. As to how they work on building boost at low rpms, I don't know. My idea when I was thinking about it, was using a 2 stage rev limiter so, I could hold the pedal down when staging a 5-speed. That probably doesn't work and really never gave it anymore thought.
