so 3.55s make the car take off faster, does this mean burnouts are more common ? Like is it harder to achieve traction on 3.55s vs 3.08s or 3.27s ?? Or does it just make the gears move quicker when the car takes off. I dont really understand if it makes the tires spin faster or makes the axle just move faster or something.

Gears are what feel like hp, push you back in the seat and get up to the shift point quicker. 91gt, you won't notice that much of a difference mileage wise between the 3.55's and the 3.73's. If you put in the 3.73's, I can just about guarantee that you will wish you had gone to the 4.10's. Traction is a problem you can live with, as most of the newer street radials, or drag radials for that matter can handle it unless you're making a zillion hp.

Top speed doesn't mean much in a fox body, they are hampered by aerodynamics regardless of the gears.

That is what I have heard from many 5.0/street racerguys. 3.55 is the best all around street/ race gears. 3.73 is starting to take away the street part of it. If auto I suggest 3.73 and up. Not saying those are bad gears i'm just saying ive heard for best "all around gears"</P>
