'87 AOD w/ no upshift to 3rd

Daughter's '87 5.0 w/aod tranny will not shift into 3rd. She says it was racing during the upshift for 3 days & now nothing.Also says tranny fluid doesn't smell burnt.

Your AOD needs a rebuild. Typical problem with it, usually the OD (4th gear) goes first. The "racing" you are talking about problem was it slipping going into gear.

yup it's toast

think about a lentech trans over a rebuild... i would

aod's are very expensive to rebuild, because so many parts will be trashed. it's not just clutches... it's hard parts and converter too

The overdrive band let go. I'd either have a local tranny shop rebuild it,I'm guessing that she doesn't race the car.If she does then I'd go with a lentech with the electric push button over drive.
