pro-M makes their maf in a way that your average ******* can slap it on there with a larger injector, and not have to worry about a tune. The calibrated maf actually sends false data to the ECM to modify the fuel curves.

Example...

My car has 30# injectors. If I were to put a set of 30# injectors in my car without changing ANYTHING else, my car would run rich.
why?
Because the 30# injector fires 20% more fuel (approximately) with the same duty cycle that a 24#er would.

Now, if you add a MAF that is "calibrated" it will ell the ECM that there is actually LESS air coming in, and the car will then inject less fuel by decreasing the duty cycle on the injector.

In the case of the FORD MAF's. They are not "calibrated", they have a "transfer function". the transfer function is where the X-Y comes in... X volts at Y airflow. That is what the ECM knows, you can then change the "injector slopes" to tell the ECM what size injectors it has (which all gets added into the calculations.. yadda yadda yadda)

I'll make this even easier for you... heres some pictures....

Here is the Injector slope data...
the left values are from the T4M0(value1) and the right are from the J4J1(value2)

And here is the maf transfer from both ECM's.
again, T4M0(Volts) on the left, J4J1(Volts2) on the right

The difference between a Cobra and GT is in the calibration of the ECM from the factory, not in the MAF. You are running poorly because your GT ECM is programmed to run 19lbs injectors, not the 24's you have on. Pro M basically electronically tricks an ECM calibrated for 19lbs computers to run bigger injectors by causing the pulse width and duration of the signal to the injector to decrease. It's similar to fat people tricking their stomach to feel that it is full by stapling half of it shut, Read adder's reply again as he really explains everything and he was being nice!

when i upgraded to 24's i got a pro-m maf with e6 injectors and the A9L did not like it at first but has since smoothed itself out.
