Default 5.0 build

Doing my first efi build so just have a few ?

Looking to make 350-400 horse, its a completely stock 87 gt. My first upgrade is prob gonna be to mass air. Id like to do a 76mm meter. Curious on the A9l computer portion of it though. Can i use one with a tune for 30 lb injectors until i get the injectors put in, or should i wait until I have all the components to put it all together? Prob a dumb question... Id also like to do a 70mm throttle body and a 190 pump. Not sure what im gonna do for intake or heads yet. Any suggestions? I have found sets of edelbrock heads new assembled for 650... Ive also been reading about comp thump cams and it has peaked my curiosity. I'm looking for something around .500 lift. I was also enticed by the thumprs self proclaimed muscle car sound. Has anyone run the thumpr? Just looking for a direction to go with all this. Thanks for your help.

400 hp is not jsut a basic rebuild. typically you'll need to do a 347 w/ some decent porting and good cam

.500 lift is kind of the magic number or you'll need to have vale clearance in the pistons

check out some of the stroker buildups in "muscle mustangs and fast fords" usually referred to as mm&ff

you can search for old articles on their website too

a mild HCI build usually gets you 300 hp, then you can squirt another 100 on it , is the easiest way

first off do your mass air and injectors at the same time you cant mix them. You can find good deals on 347 short blocks slap some afr 185s on it and a good cam and so on you will have 400

I plan on doing a 347 once this motor is toast. Just wanted to be sure 30lb injectors, the 76 mass air, and a 190 would support all that and a 50-100 shot. The thumpr cam I was looking at had .491 lift. The step up is a .501 I think. Are the 87 blocks stock Hyd lifters? Ill look into the mmff site when I get a chance. Thanks

Even a 347 stroker is going to need more than a .500 lift hydlaulic cam to make anywhere 400HP....

with your current choice of parts, you won't be anywhere near 400 hp

I'm not gonna be able to get everything right away. Prob have about $1500 right now. Then ill have to pice by piece it from there. Might just by a short block and start throwing stuff on there. Should my first upgrade be the conversion to mass air?
