5.0 engine identification?
i havent looked at the bottom of my block for a casting number yet, but cant find one up top anywhere. its a 87 gt mustang. the engine may or may not be original. i know grey/silver oil pans (87-92) are known to be forged piston engines. my oil pan is a greyish color, not black, which would indicate it is not an 86, but my intake manifold reads e6se (1986). does my intake manifold code neccessarily mean my engine is an 86? even though it has grey oil pan?

looked under and didnt see anything. something above the starter i could only see through the holes in the control arm said wat appeared to be "08" and thats all i saw
well that solves it, i have a 2008 prototype "2010" model coyote 5.0 hahaha.

i believe all lowers wil say e6 since they never changed the design
the only way i know of for sure is to pull the intake. in the lifter valley a HO will have "XXX"
you can look at the heads casting number... look for e7te those are '87 and newer heads
and is the car speed density ? or do you have mass air ? not that it wasnt converted but just curious

Yeah, ok. Don't listen to this guy.
Lots of blocks, HO and non HO had XXX and YYY
Look at the casting number above the starter and that will tell you everything you need to know.
