Default rebuilding t5, assembly issues

Ok guys so i got my first fox body mustang a 93 gt that was just like my grandfathers i remember riding in when i was younger (21 now) and the guy said it might need a clutch because 1 and second go in fine 3rd always grinded you could most of the time never get 4th to go in and 5th gear went in fine i knew it was tranny problem but he swore it needed a clutch. So pulling the tranny out of the car and taking off the top shifter plte showed broken in half synchro keys on the magnent and one of the ears broken off the 3-4 shift fork. I have since bought a complete rebuild kit and have gotten everything back together almost besides the 5th gear. The 5th gear shift fork seems to go in very tight like theres a clearance issue with the new shift pads sliding into the grover of the slider for 5th gear. Anybody ever had this problem?

Are you certain it's assembled properly? And with the correct parts?

it won't sit flush as long as you can get the tail shaft on and the two cases meet together without forcing it you'll be fine, iirc they stick out a little and the back half has a spot to retain it.

yea i know the tail housing has a race built in but its like the output shaft is too long and the front input shaft bearing retainer pushes the output shaft backwards and the race doesnt seem like it would go in any further into the case even if i put the tail housing on it doesnt sit flush
