New owner Q's Vacuum, temp, trans
95 GT w/5.0: car is stock as far as I can tell, with only 50,000 miles. Temp gage needle does not go past the "N" or lower end. Is this normal? I would think it should be in the middle. Also vacuum hose going to the back and under intake is badly cracked. What is this for? Check engine light comes on sporadically. Car runs great and passed smog w/o problems. Will be trying to check for codes later. Any input greatly appreciated

Take wire of temperature sender unir. Ground wire. Turn ignition on watch gauge, should head for hot. Do not let gauge peg. This does a stated gauge is ok. Get to operating temperature and see if top radator hose is most unpleasant to touch(190= degrees). If is hot replace sending unit. Not hot replace thermostat. New thermostat does not come with air bleed(put to 12 0clock) take small drill bit and drill hole in thermostat. This will bleed air from system as is slowly refilled. Replace suspected defective vacum hoses. They are cheap.
