Default Fuel Filter??? Help!

Took a long drive with the wife today with top down - my baby drove like a dream. On the way home (60 miles from home) she started stuttering at about 65 mph. I took my foot off the accelerator, and she died out. I pulled to the shoulder, and tried restarting... no luck. Waited 10 minutes, and she fired up, but I was only able to drive a mile, and she stuttered, and died again. Waited ten minutes, drove about 4 miles, same thing... took me 4 hours to get home repeating this stop and go process over and over again. The last leg of the trip, was the best for some reason... went 12 miles, at 55 mph, and she didn't die once.... so, what's the scoop? Clogged fuel filter is my first guess, and I'll look into that tomorrow. Any other ideas? I was getting some bad fumes while this was going on... almost smelled like the clutch was burning (you know, that sort of smell)... weird, because my clutch is fine...

Sounds like ignition module or pick up inside distributor. When it happens(no run) turn engine over to see if you have spark.

Ok, replaced the dizzy, and all is good. Drove for about 6 combined hours this weekend, and no more problems! Thanks everyone for your help with this issue! Also, the dizzy needed a steel gear, as everyone mentioned. This forum rocks!
